About Bay District Volunteer Fire Dept Inc
The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. (BDVFD) has proudly served the communities of southern St. Mary’s County since its incorporation in 1943. Originally established as the Lexington Park Volunteer Fire Department, the organization has grown alongside the community and now operates two stations under a unified department structure: Station 3 in Lexington Park, Maryland, and Station 9 in California, Maryland.
In 2025, BDVFD responded to 2,766 emergency calls, marking the highest call volume in the past decade. This milestone reflects both the increasing demand for emergency services in the area and the department’s unwavering commitment to rapid, professional response.
Commitment to Service and Readiness
Protecting life and property remains the department’s top priority. BDVFD’s volunteer members dedicate countless hours to:
Ongoing training and certification to meet evolving fire and EMS standards
Apparatus and equipment maintenance, ensuring all units are fully operational and response-ready
Emergency response operations, delivering timely and effective service across the district and surrounding mutual-aid areas
Community Engagement and Prevention
Beyond emergency response, BDVFD plays an active role in community risk reduction and outreach. Department members routinely:
Install and maintain smoke detectors for residents
Provide fire prevention and life safety education
Participate in community events and public outreach initiatives
These efforts help strengthen public safety awareness and build lasting relationships with the community.
