Established in 1928, the Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company provides fire, rescue, and Emergency Medical Services to an approximate 19 square mile area of Washington County, MD. Services are provided by proud volunteers alongside several paid drivers, together we staff two engines, a rescue squad, tanker, brush, and two utility vehicles. We work well with our mutual aid companies and we train hard to provide a great service to the community we serve. From the administration to the fire line staff, we are one big happy family committed to protecting life, property, and the environment.
MGVFC Fast Facts
- MGVFC was chartered in 1928 after a large fire in the village.
- The Village of Maugansville is 2.2 square miles though company 13’s first due is much larger, 22 square miles!
- Volunteers answer over 700 fire and EMS calls a year.
- Many calls are mutual-aid to Franklin County Pennsylvania and Morgan and Jefferson counties in West Virginia.
- MGVFC relies on fundraising for everything from apparatus purchases and maintenance to station upkeep and administrative costs.
- Many of our volunteers are also career firefighters in jurisdictions such as; the Cities of Hagerstown and Cumberland, Frederick and Montgomery counties, National Institute of Standards and Technology, BWI Airport, and many more. Though they are paid for that time, their time serving their hometown community is free!
- Not all volunteers are firefighters and EMTs, in fact, most are not. We rely on great citizens volunteering their time in any capacity possible. We welcome community members with experience or interests in areas from finance to fundraising to tradesmen. Check out our becoming a member page.
