2024 was a landmark year for our department. Our Fire and EMS first responders answered more than 7,000 calls for service—200 more than in 2023 and twice the volume of the next closest department in the county. We improved response times and increased volunteer staffing per incident compared with the previous three years, reinforcing our commitment to speed, efficiency, and exceptional service. Our top volunteer responders alone handled over 3,400 calls.
Looking ahead, 2025 is on track to set another record. With the year already two-thirds complete, call volume is up 3% over 2024, signaling continued growth in both demand and our ability to meet it.
But we are more than responders—we are community partners. Our members deliver fire-prevention education to schools and community groups, participate in events like National Night Out, Camp Cops, and the 4-H Fair, and provide standby services at county and city festivals. Our vibrant Junior Firefighter Program, led by dedicated adult leaders, equips youth with the skills, values, and sense of service needed to become the next generation of firefighters.
With the implementation of the Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS (DFEMS), we’ve seen changes in our operations. While DFEMS provides some staffing, our department continues to be financially responsible for vital needs such as apparatus purchases, building upkeep and maintenance, supplies and equipment, vehicle loan payments, and capital improvements on our campus.
